The lubrication monitoring team: Who should it include?

The make-up of lubrication monitoring teams varies depending on a number of factors such as the size of the business and the type and amount of equipment that needs to be monitored. Given this, two key members of any lubrication monitoring team are the Champion and the Mentor.

The Champion

The lubrication monitoring team is usually led by a Champion who is often a maintenance supervisor or employer. It is the Champion’s job to show the staff what to do and how to do it—providing motivation as well as encouragement. It’s best if the Champion has some authority to get past barriers and bring others on board. The Champion should also have a strong, collaborative relationship with counterparts in other departments. For example, the maintenance staff may need to work with pipefitters to accomplish goals and corrective actions.

The Mentor

Having a mentor on the team is a best practice. This person may be a long-term employee or an experienced consultant.  Importantly, it should be someone with expertise and a track record of success that can provide direction and support for maintenance initiatives.  By the way—one of the many benefits of onsite training through TestOil is the mentor relationship that often develops.

In addition to a staff of trained and certified workers, these two lubrication monitoring team members help ensure the success of the program.  For more information on working with TestOil for either classroom or private onsite training visit https://testoil.com/training-courses/ or call 216-251-2510.
