Help Creating an Oil Analysis Program

“We need to do something about our oil analysis program.”  It’s a common theme among companies with too much work (a good thing) and too little time (we can help with that).  While everyone agrees that oil analysis is essential, most companies don’t have the resources to fix an existing program that’s in tatters or start from scratch.  Enter KickStart PRO; a solution for both situations.

TestOil Oil Analysis Consultant Micheal Shaw, a TestOil PRO team member explains, “Our KickStart process is refined and flexible and implements easily without interruption. We have completed numerous KickStart programs that integrate seamlessly with our customers’ operations.  The changes that we implement are truly amazing.”

TestOil’s KickStart program will equip your team with the knowledge and tools to efficiently launch/fix and maintain your oil analysis program. A series of on-site and virtual visits coupled with personalized training will give your team members the confidence they need to perform program tasks. The carefully designed KickStart schedule is as follows:

MONTH 1

  • Initial Consultation
  • Goal & Expectation Development
  • Establish the Criticality of Machines
  • Establish Communication Between Parties
  • First On-Site Visit for Equipment Roster Creation

The initial visit to your facility is as an audit that allows us to create a full roster of your equipment, tag the equipment to be sampled, and meet with the program manager and their team. We will establish sampling frequency, make sample port recommendations and elaborate on other continuous improvement ideas.

MONTH 2-3

  • Second On-Site Visit
  • Oil Sample Collection Process
  • Best Practices Review
  • Follow Up & Report Review – Virtual Meeting

Accompanied by your team, we will walk through your facility to collect the requisite oil samples. We will explain each step thoroughly so that your team understands the sample collection process and best practices. While we illustrate best sampling practices, our team will provide recommendations as they arise. A follow-up to this on-site visit will be coordinated virtually. Discussion points will include results and reports of the initial sample collection, an overview of the database, and any action items pertaining to progress made thus far in the program.

MONTH 4-5

  • Third On-Site Visit
  • Audit of Sample Collection
  • Receive of Best Practices
  • Program Continuous Improvement Recommendations
  • Follow Up – Virtual Meeting

During this visit, plant personnel will take the lead in the sample collection process, with TestOil

supervision. Discussions will continue about best sampling practices and sample port recommendations. We will also bring printed reports to review with the program manager in order to further illustrate the testing results.  A virtual follow-up to this visit will be coordinated with the program manager to discuss action items.

MONTH 6

  • Final On-Site Visit
  • Program Handoff
  • Final Audit of Sampling Process
  • Certification from TestOil
  • Program Manual

This visit will correspond with a program hand-off. The TestOil representative will observe the plant personnel pulling several oil samples on their own to ensure proper process and technique.  The hands-on training, training videos, and online quizzes will result in TestOil certification, which will be provided when the program is completed.

Program Completion Follow-Up

We will have a final phone call or virtual meeting to follow up with your team’s progress after they have completed their first independent oil sample collection. We will review the reports with you, review the data, answer questions, and talk about any changes you have noticed since your company began oil sampling and analysis.

“Ideally every company should initiate an oil analysis program on day one,” Micheal advises. “If you have machines or even one machine that is really critical--I call them showstoppers--you need oil analysis.  I have witnessed established companies making tremendous strides when adopting oil analysis through TestOil’s KickStart PRO program. It’s never too late.”
