Lubrication Storage Best Practices Result from Eurofins TestOil Lube Room Audit

A lube room audit conducted by Eurofins TestOil Field Services technicians not only ensures compliance and safety but also improves the efficiency and longevity of the equipment. This audit is crucial for reasons that include:

  • Preventing Contamination: It ensures that lubricants are stored and handled properly.
  • Maintaining Machinery Efficiency: It reduces downtime and increases productivity.
  • Cost Savings: Efficient inventory management and proper handling reduce lubricant waste. Well-lubricated machinery operates more efficiently, leading to lower energy consumption.
  • Operational Efficiency: Organized storage and clear labeling streamline lubrication processes, making it easier for staff to find and use the right lubricants. Consistent and proper lubrication minimizes machinery downtime, keeping operations running smoothly.
  • Environmental Responsibility: Ensuring that used and contaminated lubricants are disposed of correctly helps protect the environment. Efficient lubrication practices contribute to the sustainability of operations by reducing waste and energy consumption.

Eurofins TestOil Reliability Field Analyst Camron Cunningham explains, “A lube room audit gives customers the ability to assess their lubrication management program. They get a better understanding of proper lubrication storage and handling techniques.”

A lube room audit conducted by Eurofins TestOil Field Services includes a one-on-one consultation on the status of the customer’s lubrication management program and a discussion of their needs and goals. Once onsite, Eurofins TestOil Field Services technicians will conduct training on proper lubrication storage and handling practices. This is followed by a plant walkthrough to assess all of the lubrication storage areas along with documenting and photographing those areas.

“In the lube room audit, we will be looking at their lubrication organization and lubrication filtration and assessing their portable lubrication transportation containers throughout the facility,” Camron explains. “We will then proceed to give the customer verbal recommendations of ways to improve-- all in the pursuit of having an efficient lubrication management program.”

A lube room audit recommendation checklist and a detailed PDF report of the audit are options. If the customer opts for the PDF report, they will receive all of the documentation from the audit, along with all of the photographed images. They will also be given a grade on their overall lube management program with the necessary recommendations to improve their lube management grade and the quality of the lubricant used in their critical assets.

“The audit will help cure deficiencies if the customer listens to the recommendations, samples their incoming new lubricant supply for lubricant quality, and stays committed to running an excellent lube management program,” Camron says.

The bottom line is that a lube room audit conducted by Eurofins TestOil Field Services technicians is essential for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of lubricants and machinery, ensuring safety and compliance, achieving cost savings, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

“Ultimately, the audit improves the longevity of the lubricants, keeping lubricants optimal for equipment use, and saving money on potentially unnecessary lubricant purchases from suppliers,” Camron concludes.
